Is this going to be another failed accountability post on my website? Maybe. But I want to try something a little bit different this time. I want to create the most straightforward product and convince 1000 people to buy it.
Yes, just 1000. That’s approximately 0.0000125% of the world’s population. It doesn’t sound like much, but when you think about it, this seemingly small number carries a lot of weight for an indie developer.
Why 1000 people, you ask? Aiming for 1000 buyers is rooted in a popular concept called “1000 True Fans.” The theory suggests that if you can find 1000 people who truly love what you do and are willing to support you, that’s enough to make a sustainable living from your craft. It’s not about reaching millions but creating something specific, focused, and valuable enough for those select few.
In an age where everyone seems to be chasing massive follower counts and viral hits, I’m setting my sights on a different metric: deep engagement with a small group of people. If 1000 people believe in my product enough to part with their hard-earned money then I’ve created something meaningful.
I’m taking the lessons from my previous failed attempts and applying them with more patience and understanding.
Ultimately, this shouldn’t just be about the product or the sales number but about the process of refining my approach, understanding my audience, and creating something that genuinely matters to people.
So, is this going to be another failed accountability post? Maybe. But for now, I’m committed to finding out.
